How AIToolBlaze tests and reviews AI tools

Every review on this site is based on hands-on testing — not press releases, vendor demos, or affiliate incentives. Here's exactly how we test, how we score, and the rules we hold ourselves to.

Our testing process

We don't review a tool until we've actually used it on real work. For every review:

  1. 1We sign up and pay for the plan most readers would use (often the entry paid tier), so we see real limits — not a cherry-picked enterprise demo.
  2. 2We run the tool on real, repeatable tasks for a minimum of several days — the same prompts, projects, or workflows we'd use day-to-day.
  3. 3We test the claims that matter: output quality, speed, reliability, pricing caps, and the rough edges vendors don't advertise.
  4. 4We compare it head-to-head against the obvious alternatives, so the verdict is relative, not in a vacuum.
  5. 5We document what we ran in a "How I Tested This" section inside the review, so you can see the evidence behind the score.
  6. 6We revisit and update reviews when pricing, features, or our verdict changes — each review shows a "last updated" date.

How we score

Every tool gets a single rating out of 5, rolled up from five weighted criteria. The weighting reflects what actually matters when you're deciding whether to pay for something.

CriterionWeightWhat it measures
Performance & output quality30%How good are the actual results on real tasks — accuracy, reliability, and consistency under our test prompts and workflows.
Value for money25%Pricing versus what you get, including free-tier limits, hidden caps, and how it compares to direct alternatives.
Ease of use20%Onboarding, learning curve, UI clarity, and how quickly a new user reaches a useful result.
Features & flexibility15%Depth of capabilities, integrations, export options, and how well it scales with serious use.
Support & trust10%Documentation, responsiveness, transparency, and data/privacy practices.

What the scores mean

4.5 – 5.0ExceptionalBest-in-class. We'd recommend it without hesitation for its use case.
4.0 – 4.4ExcellentStrong, well-rounded tool with only minor trade-offs.
3.5 – 3.9GoodSolid and useful, but with real limitations worth weighing.
3.0 – 3.4AverageDoes the job, but better-value alternatives usually exist.
Below 3.0Below parSignificant gaps, overpricing, or reliability problems. Buy with caution.

Editorial independence

  • We never accept payment in exchange for a review, a higher score, or a place in a roundup. Ever.
  • Vendors do not see our reviews or scores before publication, and they have no input into our verdicts.
  • No tool gets a better rating because it has an affiliate program. Tools without affiliate programs are reviewed and recommended on identical terms.
  • We will say plainly when a tool isn't worth it, when a free alternative is better, or when a cheaper competitor wins — even when there's no commission in it for us.

Conflict-of-interest & affiliate policy

AIToolBlaze is funded primarily through affiliate commissions. When you buy a tool through some of our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We think you deserve to know exactly how that works and where the guardrails are:

  • Affiliate links are disclosed at the top of every review that contains them, and are marked rel="sponsored" for search engines.
  • Monetization is decided after the verdict and score are written — it never changes the rating.
  • We only add an affiliate link once we'd genuinely recommend the tool to a reader. We don't link to tools we don't stand behind.
  • If we ever have a non-affiliate relationship with a vendor (e.g. free access for testing), we treat it like any paid account and disclose it where relevant.

See our full affiliate disclosure for the legal details.
